Department Profile

The study of Sanskrit renders an opportunity to know our ancient Indian culture through the treasure of the vedic scriptures, the epics popularly known as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, the Bhagvad Gita universally appreciated scripture of self-realization, Manusmriti–a scripture on Law & Dharma & so on & so forth. The grammar of Sanskrit : Panini's Astadhyayi is globally accepted as the best & the most suited input for Computer Science. Like any fundamental under graduate course, it has an opening for entry into careers in civil services, journalism, law, human right development and other opportunities of editing & translating manuscripts etc. Students interested in teaching profession can go for B.Ed. after graduation. For higher Studies options are Post-graduation in Sanskrit followed by M.Phil. & Ph. D. Such distinct student can enter into faculty teaching in colleges.

The department offers B.A. Hons. course in Sanskrit spread over three years like any other Hons. course. In this course a student is offered Sanskrit as the Main Subject. It is also offered as a subject in the B.A Programme. At Post-Graduate level, the department holds weekly tutorials for Part-I & Part-II M.A. course in Sanskrit. Lectures for Post Graduate students are held in the University of Delhi (North Campus) where in majority of the faculty members participate in co-operative teaching according to their field of specialization.
