Department Profile

The Honours Course in Botany is a fine balance of various facets of Plant World. Keeping in mind the recent developments, in various fields, the syllabus has been upgraded (2004) to provide a comprehensive study of Plant World – such as Phycology, Microbiology, Phytopathology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Plant Systematics, Phytogeography, Developmental and Seed Biology, Plant Physiology, Ecology and Environmental Management etc. The Honours Course not only gives an in-depth view (theory and practical) of different branches, but also equips the students to face the new challenges of Plant World. The basic degree would also provide tremendous opportunities for lateral movement to several emerging fields of interdisciplinary nature. The graduates can look for further specialization in the field of their interest through post-graduation or for opportunities in the applied fields of Botanical Survey, Biotechnology Environmental Science, Forestry (IFS) Flori/Horticulture, Medicinal plants etc. The subject is also offered in the B.Sc.Course as one of the main subject. The faculty comprises dedicated, eminently qualified teachers expert in their respective fields of specialization, also proficient both in theoretical and practical aspects with distinguished publications to their credit.
